Objective
Make sets and runs so the cards left outside your melds, called deadwood, are worth as little as possible.
How to Play
- Gin Rummy is a two-player game. Each player gets 10 cards, with a stock pile and a face-up discard pile.
- On your turn, draw one card from either pile. Then choose one card to discard.
- Melds are three or four cards of the same rank, or three or more cards in order in the same suit.
- Aces count as 1 point, number cards count their number, and J, Q, and K count 10.
- You cannot take the top discard and immediately throw that same card away.
How to Win
End the hand by going gin with 0 deadwood, or by knocking with 1-10 deadwood. Gin scores 25 plus the opponent's deadwood. A knock scores the deadwood difference, unless the opponent undercuts and scores instead.
Tips
- Watch the face-up discard pile for cards that complete your melds.
- Use the Best Melds and Deadwood panels before deciding to knock or discard.
- Keep flexible cards that can join more than one possible run or set.
