Objective
Protect your king while trying to trap the other king in checkmate.
How to Play
- White moves first, then players alternate turns. In Play vs Computer, you are White and the computer is Black.
- Click one of your pieces, then click a highlighted square to move or capture.
- Each piece moves in its own way: pawns move forward, knights jump in an L shape, bishops use diagonals, rooks use rows and columns, queens combine rook and bishop moves, and kings move one square.
- This game also supports special moves such as castling, en passant, and pawn promotion.
- If your king is in check, your next move must make the king safe.
How to Win
Win by checkmating your opponent: their king is in check and they have no legal escape. Some games can end in a draw, such as stalemate, repeated positions, not enough pieces, or the 50 move rule.
Tips
- Keep your king safe before attacking.
- Look for captures, checks, and threats before every move.
- Try to control the center squares early.
